Benefits of Protein

Since I am doing a week of protein smoothies I figured I would touch base on more information about protein and why it is so important for your body. Let me first start by saying you don't have to drink protein shake, there are other ways of getting protein in, a shake is just a quick way to get a high dose. The power of protein; protein is an important component of every cell in the body. Hair and nails are mostly made of protein. Your body uses protein to build and repair tissues. You also use protein to make enzymes, hormones and other body chemicals. Protein is an important building block of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin and blood. Women not working out should take in between 50-60 grams of protein. Women working out should take in between 60-100 grams a day. It's not as hard as you may think it is. Most protein powder has at least 20g, if you are working out and you do 2 shakes that is already 40g of protein. Now let's say you have chicken for dinner 4oz chicken brea...

Basic Protein Shake Smoothie

This week's recipes are going to be all about protein shakes. Benefits of protein shakes; they are an excellent thing to drink before and or after a workout to help your muscles properly recover. They are also a great meal replacement as they have healthy calories and are high in protein. The first recipe of the week is a basic protein shake smoothie... First thing you need to know is you need to find a brand of protein powder you like, we get ours from bodybuilding.com or GNC. The nice thing about GNC is you can buy some protein powder, if you don't like it keep your receipt and they will take it back. Sometimes they have samples you can try too. My favorite from GNC is their actual brand and it is salted caramel, it is good mixed with peanut butter. Any who are into the recipe.... What you need is: 1c frozen fruit 1 scoop of protein powder (when I use fruit I do either strawberry or vanilla protein powder) 1/3-1c of almond milk, skim milk or water. *** I always start with t...

DIY Exfoliating Foot Soak

I get dry cracked feet, I really get it bad in the winter. During the spring and summer I go get pedicures, I don't see the point during the winter because I always have socks on. I still need to take care of my feet though, so I do it at home. What you need: 3 fresh lemons 3c vinegar 3c epsom salt pumice stone sugar scrub How to do your saok: Fill a large bowl with warm to hot water; something big enough to fit both your feet and a towel to place under the bowl. Add the vinegar and lemon juice. Use the insides of the lemon peels to gently clean toes and feet. Before adding the salt to the water rub some into your feet using a circular motion. Soak your feet for 10-15 minutes, then use a pumice stone to take the dry skin off. Take some sugar scrub and rub it into your feet. Let it set on your feet for 5 minutes. Pop your feet in the water just to rinse the sugar scrub off and then dry your feet. You can also coat your feet in a good thick lotion and then put socks on.
