Costa Rican zebra Olaf

Our Costa Rican Spider name Olaf has been a hoot, if a tarantula has a personality he definitely has one. He likes to play with a ping pong ball, he moves his water dish and buries it a lot and his favorite thing is doing the hokey pokey.

Want to know more about these beautiful tarantula’s?

The Costa Rican zebra tarantula (Aphonopelma seemanni) is a species of tarantula that lives in tropical rainforests and dry forests in Central America. It's also known as the striped-knee tarantula.

These tarantulas are usually black with white stripes near the leg joints. They typically reach a maximum size of around 3.5 to 5 inches. Females are heavier-bodied than males with bigger abdomens.

Costa Rican zebra tarantulas are generally considered docile and relatively friendly compared to some other tarantula species. They're more inclined to dart back into their burrow as opposed to strike and attack what they may consider a potential threat.

To care for a pet Costa Rican zebra tarantula, you can:

  • Feed adults crickets, mealworms, or roaches

  • Feed spiderlings under 1/3” pre-killed food until they're large enough to handle live prey

  • Remove any unwanted prey after 24 hours

  • Remove any leftover remains to keep the habitat sanitary

  • Provide an accessible shallow water dish as both a drinking and humidity source

DIY Cheesecloth Ghosts

I absolutely love these! I love decorating for Halloween, I have to say it is my favorite holiday. I don't think you can have enough decorations up! So when I found this DIY project I just had to share!   DIY Cheesecloth Ghosts     You can find styrofoam mannequin heads at wig shots. They normally can stand on their necks but for this project you need to suspend them to let the cloth flow freely. Materials: Cheesecloth Styrofoam mannequin heads Sponge brush Watered-down glue or fabric stiffener Screw eyes Monofilament Removable adhesive hooks (like command brand or painters tape).     Steps: Apply a layer of cheesecloth to the head, then generously brush over head and face with glue. Use hands to smooth the cloth into the facial features. Don't brush down the neck, stop at chin level so the fabric is loose below that. Repeat until you have 4 layers each being 7 feet long of cheesecloth...
