DIY for kids: Pom Pom Spiders

I am not sure how your child, or grandchild feel about spiders

but my 2 1/2 year old is fearless. She loves all the critters in the

house and she likes to give them names. She even has her own

jumping spider and her own curly hair tarantula. Before you ask

yes we are responsible she doesn't get to

hold them she just gets to watch.

With that being said I thought this would be a cute craft to do

with her and one to share especially with

Halloween right around the corner.

What you'll need:

Craft Beads

Large Black Pom Poms

Googly Eyes

Pipe Cleaners

Tacky Glue

*Note:

You may also want to use hot glue to keep the

pipe cleaners in place. Adults only should glue these on.

An extra strong non-toxic glue for gluing with pipe cleaners and pom poms.

As long as you give it time to dry it should hold in place without

too much handling. Kids can also slightly push the pipe cleaners

into the pom pom to hold it in place.

Create:

Cut the pipe cleaners into 8 pieces that are the same length.

Put the beads onto the legs. You can make a pattern out of them

or just have fun putting on as many or as little as you’d like!

At the end of the leg, fold the bottom of the pipe cleaner over to

create a small knot so the beads do not fall off. You can fold the

pipe cleaner back into the last bead to secure the end.

Glue each leg to the body (large black pom pom) with the tacky

glue or extra strong kids glue. Note – you may need hot glue to

hold it in place for extra-sturdiness.

Attach the googly eyes. And you can add as many eyes as you’d like!

Let the glue dry. It’s important to give the spider some time to dry.

Gluing pom poms and pipe cleaners can be tricky even with

extra-strong glue. If you’re having trouble getting it to stay

– try using hot glue (adults only).

Fall Simmering Potpourri

I love the smell of fall, I even like fall itself.  I just don't like what follows... winter!  However I love walking in my home and smelling  the fall scents that are so warm and inviting. Making this simmering potpourri is extremely easy! What you'll need: Tangerine or orange peels Cloves Cinnamon sticks or ground cinnamon Vanilla extract Pumpkin pie spice Water Small crockpot, saucepan or tea kettle You can choose how much you want to put in  of what, there really is no magic amount. I normally put  in more of my favorite scents. If using a tea kettle  or a sauce pan keep in mind you will have to keep  adding water to it. If you use a crockpot you  will not have to keep adding water and you can keep  it on even when you're asleep. Some other ideas that you can add are: Apple juice (instead of water) Cranberries Nutmeg Anise (one of my favorites) Dried fruit Coffee beans Have you ever made a simmering potpourri pot?  What do you normal...
