Sauerkraut Balls

Keeping up with the tradition of having sauerkraut on New Year's day, here is my last recipe of the week. I absolutely love these things! This recipe will make 32 balls. What you'll need: 1lb pork sausage 1/4c finely chopped onion 1 (14oz) can of sauerkraut, drained and chopped 1/2tsp mustard 1/4tsp garlic salt 1/8tsp pepper 2T italian seasoned bread crumbs 4oz softened cream cheese 2T parsley flakes 1/4c all purpose flour 1 beaten egg 1/4c milk 3/4c italian seasoned bread crumbs 6c veggie oil for deep frying Create: In a large skillet over medium high heat fry your sausage and onion until sausage is done and onion is soft. Drain and allow to cool slightly. Crumble sausage mixture into a large bowl and add sauerkraut, mustard, garlic salt, pepper and 2T of bread crumbs. Combine cream cheese and parsley, add mix into the sauerkraut mixture and place in the fridge for 1 hour. Heat oil in a deep fryer to 375 degrees. Shape sauerkraut mixture into 3/4" balls. Confetti Mocktail

I have tried to find some easy and inexpensive drinks to make for the kiddos on New Year's Eve. I hope you have enjoyed the recipes that I have found and  have maybe picked 1 or 2 to make. This recipe makes 1 drink. What you'll need: 2tsp lime juice blue pop rocks 4oz blue hawaiian punch 3oz 7up maraschino cherry ice Create: Add lime juice to one small shallow dish and pop rocks into another. Dip the rim of cocktail glass into lime juice followed by the pop rocks. Add ice to the cocktail glass. Pour Hawaiian punch over the ice followed by the 7up and top with a cherry.  

Sparkling Pear & Ginger Cocktail

Last New Years Eve cocktail recipe. Pear and ginger will pair nicely and be a refreshing bubbly drink to ring in the New Year with. This recipe makes 1 cocktail. What you will need: Pear & Ginger syrup; Slice a pear into small pieces, discarding the core. Peel and grate 1/2c fresh ginger. Add ginger and pear to a sauce pan with 1/2c of water. Allow to simmer on low for 20 minutes. When the time is up use a potato masher to mash the pear as much as you can. Add 2T of sugar, stir and allow to simmer for 5 minutes more. Place the pear mixture in a container and place in the fridge for about 15 minutes. Use a cheesecloth to squeeze the syrup out of the mixture. Place in the fridge until ready to use. ***You will use 1/2oz of the syrup for each cocktail*** 1/2oz St. Germain 1/2oz fresh lemon juice 3oz prosecco Create: Take a handful of ice to a cocktail shaker, mix in all ingredients and shake well. Pour into a frosted glass and serve.  

An Irish Blessing for the New Year

Sauerkraut and Kielbasa Nachos

Sauerkraut is a tradition for a lot of families on New Year's Day. You could make these for an appetizer for New Years Eve or day. This recipe serves 6. What you'll need: ***For the pepper dijon cream; 1c mayo 3T dijon mustard 2tsp sauerkraut juice 3/4tsp black pepper 1/2tsp garlic powder 1/2tsp onion powder ***Nachos; 2T butter 1 chopped medium onion 1 link polska kielbasa cubed into 1/2" pieces 2c sauerkraut, drained 4c Sargento off the block mozzarella cheese 1 bag tortilla strips Create: To make the cream, combine all the ingredients in a medium sized bowl and mix well. Place in a squeeze bottle and keep in the fridge until ready to use. In a large frying pan, melt butter over medium high heat. Add onions and soften for about 5 minutes. Add kielbasa and brown, stirring often for about 3 more minutes. Add sauerkraut and continue to stir for about 3 minutes. Remove from heat. Orange Yogurt Soda Punch

This punch is for the kiddos. You can make this for a New Years Eve party where they can have their own special drink. Finding these drinks for kids has been so much fun! So many drinks that I would have never thought of. Want to make it for yourself? Just add some vodka. This recipe makes 4 drinks. What you'll need: 2 cups fresh orange juice 1c plain yogurt 1 can soda water ice cubes vanilla ice cream orange rinds Create: Put everything in a blender and process until smooth.  

Patron Winter at Last

Do you like Patron? If so, here is a great New Years Eve cocktail to make! This recipe makes 1 drink. What you'll need: 1.5oz Patron silver .5oz blue citronge .25oz tempus fugit creme de menthe 1oz coconut puree .5oz pineapple juice .5oz lime juice Create: Combine all ingredients in a shaker with crushed ice. Shake until chilled and combined. Fill the cocktail into an old fashioned glass. Top with fresh crushed ice and garnish with a sprig of mint and a slice of pineapple if you'd like.

Spicy Cheesy Corn and Tomato Dip

Need something spicy to warm you up for an appetizer on New Years Eve/Day? Here is a good one. This recipe serves 6. You'll need: 12" cast iron skillet 3 mixing bowls 1T unsalted butter 1 medium onion, chopped 2c drained corn 1/2 chopped red serrano pepper 1 1/2c monterey jack cheese 1/4c chopped parsley 1/4c sour cream 1/4tsp salt 1/2tsp pepper 1c chopped cherry tomatoes Create: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Melt the butter in a skillet over medium high heat. Add the onion and cook until it is soft and translucent. Add the corn, serrano and pepper. Cook until the corn starts to turn a golden brown. About 5 minutes and set aside. In a medium bowl add cheese, parsley and sour cream then stir. Season with salt and pepper. Add corn mixture and chopped tomatoes, stir until it's well mixed. Pour the mixture into a baking dish and top with additional cheese if preferred. Bake for about 15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbling and the top is golden.  

Winter Mojito

Here is another great cocktail to serve on New Years Eve. Enjoy a winter spin on a classic cocktail. This recipe makes 1 drink. What you'll need: 2oz spiced rum 3/4oz fresh lime juice 1/2oz demerara syrup 1 mint sprig 1oz club soda 1 tsp licor 43 liqueur Create: Add the spiced rum, lime juice and demerara syrup into a shaker with ice and shake until well chilled. Double strain the drink into a Collins glass with fresh ice and a mint sprig. Top with club soda.  

Ring Pop Mocktails

These will be so much fun for the kids to drink for New Years Eve. This recipe makes 1 drink. What you'll need: plain seltzer ring pop any type of fruit for garnish plastic champagne flutes party toothpicks honey and colored sugar for rimming the glass twisty straws Create: Pour a few tablespoons of honey into a small dish. In another dish pour a few tablespoons of colored sugar. Dip the rim of the glass in the honey dish then immediately into the sugar. Swirl the glass around a bit to make sure the rim is covered. Stand upright and allow to dry for a minute or two. Fill the glass about 2/3 of the way with seltzer. Drop in a ring pop, let it steep for a while to let the ring pop dissolve into the seltzer. The seltzer should start turning the color of the ring pop and will take on the flavor. Slide your fruit onto one of the party toothpicks. Place it into the glass and add a twisty straw and garnish the stem of the glass with another ring pop.

Turkey Pinwheels

This week's main recipes are going to be all about appetizers for New Years Eve/Day. These are a classic appetizer and very easy to make. This recipe serves 5. What you'll need: 2T mayo 2T ketchup 1T relish 4 large flour tortillas 1/2lb cracked pepper turkey, sliced thin 1c baby spinach 1/4lb provolone cheese 1/4c cherry tomatoes, chopped 4tsp olive oil, divided 1tsp salt, divided black pepper toothpicks ***You can omit anything you or your family doesn't like*** Create: In a small bowl, combine mayo, ketchup and relish. Stir to combine. Lay out each tortilla on a cutting board and spread about 1 heaping tablespoon of sauce onto each wrap, leaving the top 1" each round empty. Layer sliced turkey, spinach and cheese and chopped tomatoes on each wrap. Drizzle each with about 1 tsp of olive oil, 1/4tsp salt and a pinch of black pepper. Gummy Bear Mocktail

Kids love special drinks that mimic our adult drinks. I love this idea because most kids love gummy bears and this can be their own special drink for New Years Eve. This recipe makes 1 drink. What you'll need: 6oz sparkling grape juice 10 gummy bears plastic champagne flutes Create: Place the gummy bears in the champagne flute and fill with sparkling grape juice. How easy was that??
