I saved one of my favorite meals for last. I love french toast and boy
does Disney make some incredible styles of French Toast! I've never had
one that isn't amazing, weather it was at Disney or weather I made one at home!
This would be perfect to make for Christmas morning or I like to make a breakfast
for Christmas Eve dinner, your choice This recipe serves 4.
What you'll need:
(For the Caramel Sauce)
4T butter
1/2c brown sugar
3/4c heavy cream
(Vanilla Sauce)
2 egg yolks
2T sugar
1c milk
1/2 vanilla bean split and scraped (or 1tsp vanilla extract)
(French Toast)
1 jumbo egg
1c whole milk
1/8tsp vanilla extract
1T butter
8 pieces Texas toast (or a similar thick slice of bread)
Create:
Start by making the caramel sauce; Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
Add brown sugar and mix well. Add cream and bring to a simmer.
Keep warm until needed.
For the Vanilla Sauce; Whisk together the yolks and sugar in a small bowl.
In a saucepan, bring the milk and vanilla beans (or tsp of vanilla) to a low boil,
then remove from heat. Add a little of the heated milk to the egg mixture
to temper it, then add the tempered egg mixture to the heated milk.
Simmer over medium heat for a few minutes, stirring constantly, until lightly
thickened but do not boil. Transfer to a bowl and set aside in an ice bath.
For the French Toast; In a shallow bowl beat together egg, milk
and vanilla extract. Place a large skillet over medium high heat and add
a tablespoon of butter. One at a time dip bread slices in the milk mixture
and place in the skillet. Evenly brown both sides of bread. Transfer to a plate
and spread a spoonful or two of vanilla sauce on the 4 slices. Top each with
a second piece to create sandwiches. Cut each sandwich in half diagonally.
Cover each with a couple spoonfuls of warm caramel sauce.
Just a little piece of heaven suggestion, if you have never had deep fried french toast
is amazing however you make it. You could easily make this recipe but instead
of putting butter in a skillet put oil in the skillet and deep fry it
keep everything else the same.
