Fibromyalgia and Exercise

Fibromyalgia and Exercise

Do you have Fibromyalgia? Do you exercise or do you think there is no way you can exercise with your pain? In this post you will find really good reasons as to why you should still exercise! You don't have to do high-impact workouts but walking daily, stretching, swimming, yoga, tai chi or pilates are all great low-impact exercises you can do when you suffer from Fibromyalgia!

Experts believe than when a patient exercises and has daily activity you can actually have some control over your fibromyalgia and the amount of pain you feel. It is essential for keeping muscles strong and flexible along with helping control your weight.

Exercising boosts levels of natural endorphins, pain fighting molecules that are responsible for the “runners high.” Endorphins help reduce anxiety, stress and depression! Scientists have also found that low levels of serotonin can be linked to fibromyalgia, which also leads to aggression. When you have an increased level of serotonin you are calmer and reduces your anxiety. Lack of exercise and inactivity can aggravate low serotonin levels.

If you have fibromyalgia and you want to start exercising, it is really important to start slowly! Begin with stretching exercises and then gently low-imapct activity like walking, swimming or bicycling. Remember muscle soreness is usual when first starting an exercise regimen. You should however avoid running, jogging and excessive weight training before talking to your doctor.

Depression Sucks!

Dear Diary....Depression Sucks,      I have it marked in the "About Me" section that I am Bipolar. I was diagnosed Manic Depressive when I was 15, and then at a later date it turned too Bipolar Type 2. What is Bipolar 2 Disorder? It is a form of mental illness, it is similar to Bipolar 1 except with moods cycling between high and low over time. Most of the time the "up" moods never reach full blown mania (I have had that twice in my life). The less intense elevated moods in bipolar 2 are called hypomanic episodes. Most people that have Bipolar 2 suffer more from depression, which is where the term mani depression comes from. Depressive episodes can last weeks, months and (rarely) years. I have never let being bipolar define me but I am not going to lie it has affected a lot in my life. Especially when I am in the "manic" state. Again was only twice in my life but when it happened everything durring that period of time changed! ...
