Welcome Halloween Week 2 Hocus Pocus

We are continuing on gearing up for Halloween.
Week 1 I did The Nightmare Before Christmas which
is my all time favorite and coming in second is Hocus Pocus.

Your DIY for Hocus Pocus is Floating Witch Hat Luminaries

The items you need to make these are:

Inexpensive witch hats (amazon or ebay)
Fishing line
Long needle
LED light sticks (you want them with a clip, that is battery
powered and lightweight) or glow sticks
Safety pins
Outdoor command hooks for lights

Before you decide to make these, you need to decide
how many hats you'd like to hang. Then get an idea of
how far out you want to space them. After you have
figured that out, attach a command hoot to the
ceiling in each spot you have picked out.

Now you want to add the fishing line to the witch hats.
String about 2-3' of fishing line onto the needle.
Feed the needle through the point of the witch hat on
the outside of the hat. Bring the fishing line through
to the interior of the hat. DO NOT pull all the fishing
line through the hat, leave it on the outside of the hat.

Remove the needle and tie the fishing line
around a safety pin.

Add your lights, use the safety pin to attach the fishing
line to the light stick.

A few tips, most LED bulbs will not last for 30 days,
glow sticks will not last long at all. Hang the hats but
only light up once it closers to Halloween and of
course Halloween night. Before you go to bed make
sure you turn the lights off. If you don't have a porch
hang around the inside of your house.

Your Hocus Pocus spooky snack is S'mores Pops in the
theme of Winifred Sanderson's book. These look so
cute and would be fun for a Halloween party!
The recipe itself yields 6

Ingredients:
12 graham crackers, halved
marshmallow creme
3c semi sweet chocolate chips
3T coconut oil
1 bag candy eyes
1 container of black cookie frosting
popsicle sticks

Create:
Spread marshmallow creme on half of the graham crackers.
Place a popsicle stick halfway on the creme, so it
sticks out from the graham cracker like a handle,
then top with the other graham cracker.
Place them on a parchment lined baking sheet and
leave in the freezer while you make the chocolate sauce.

Set up a double boiler: fill a medium sized saucepan with
about 1" water then top with a glass bowl. Make sure the
bowl doesn't touch the water. Place the chocolate chips
in a bowl, stirring until melted, then stir in the coconut oil.
Dip graham cracker sandwiches in chocolate covering
them completely. You may need to use a butter knife
or silicone spatula to make sure the sides are coated.
Stick one candy eye on each book, on the far right side
about halfway down the graham cracker. Place them
back on the baking sheet and place in the fridge for at
least 15 minutes or until the chocolate is hardened.

Use black cookie frosting to draw a circle around the eye,
2 semicircles on the outer corners of the graham cracker
"book" and "stitches" on the chocolate
covered graham crackers.

Refrigerate until it sets, at least 15 minutes.
Keep them in the fridge until you are ready to serve.

Of course, what movie should you watch when done, Hocus Pocus

Fall Simmering Potpourri

I love the smell of fall, I even like fall itself.  I just don't like what follows... winter!  However I love walking in my home and smelling  the fall scents that are so warm and inviting. Making this simmering potpourri is extremely easy! What you'll need: Tangerine or orange peels Cloves Cinnamon sticks or ground cinnamon Vanilla extract Pumpkin pie spice Water Small crockpot, saucepan or tea kettle You can choose how much you want to put in  of what, there really is no magic amount. I normally put  in more of my favorite scents. If using a tea kettle  or a sauce pan keep in mind you will have to keep  adding water to it. If you use a crockpot you  will not have to keep adding water and you can keep  it on even when you're asleep. Some other ideas that you can add are: Apple juice (instead of water) Cranberries Nutmeg Anise (one of my favorites) Dried fruit Coffee beans Have you ever made a simmering potpourri pot?  What do you normal...
