DIY Sore Throat Suckers

Have a sore throat? Want it to be natural? Maybe your child won't take a cough drop or you don't like them either? Give this a try, all you need are 7 ingredients and 3 items. Do not use on a child under 1 year old.

Ingredients:
2c filtered water
2T dried elderberries
2T rosehips
2T echinacea
1 cinnamon stick
1 1/2c raw honey
Vitamin C powder

Equipment needed:
Saucepan
Candy Thermometer
Silicone sucker molds

Instructions:

Bring 2 cups of water to a boil with the elderberries, rosehips, echinacea and cinnamon stick.

After it comes to a boil, reduce heat to low and simmer for 5-10 minutes.

Cover the pan, remove from heat and allow it to sit undisturbed for 30 minutes to allow the herbs to fully infuse.

Once the infusion is complete strain the herbs.

Combine 1 cup of the herbal infusion with 1 1/2 cups of honey in a medium saucepan. Do not use a small saucepan.

Set the extra liquid aside. If you combine it with some raw honey to taste, you'll have a simple elderberry tea.

Heat over medium until the temp of the mixture reaches 300 degrees. This will take approximately 30 minutes. You can test to see if it's done by putting a drop of the mixture into a glass of ice water. If it immediately hardens, it's done.

When your lollipop mixture is done, immediately remove your pan from the heat. Stir until the bubbles dissipate.

Pour the mixture into lollipop molds and insert sticks, or you can do a small silicone mold if you want to make a type of cough drop. Do this quickly before the mixture hardens in the pan.

Allow the lollipops to cool completely.

Once they're cool, coat each side of the lollipop in the Vitamin C powder, helps keep them from sticking together.

Store them in the fridge to keep them nice and firm and they will also be likely to stick together.

Fall Simmering Potpourri

I love the smell of fall, I even like fall itself.  I just don't like what follows... winter!  However I love walking in my home and smelling  the fall scents that are so warm and inviting. Making this simmering potpourri is extremely easy! What you'll need: Tangerine or orange peels Cloves Cinnamon sticks or ground cinnamon Vanilla extract Pumpkin pie spice Water Small crockpot, saucepan or tea kettle You can choose how much you want to put in  of what, there really is no magic amount. I normally put  in more of my favorite scents. If using a tea kettle  or a sauce pan keep in mind you will have to keep  adding water to it. If you use a crockpot you  will not have to keep adding water and you can keep  it on even when you're asleep. Some other ideas that you can add are: Apple juice (instead of water) Cranberries Nutmeg Anise (one of my favorites) Dried fruit Coffee beans Have you ever made a simmering potpourri pot?  What do you normal...
