I
do get Migraines and they are not fun, luckily I don't get them as
frequently as I use too. When you do, it's like the end of the world.
Here are some tips to help you sleep while you have one.
Watch
eating and drinking too close to bedtime, try to avoid alcohol,
caffeine, a large meal and a large amount of fluids.
Try
to avoid migraine triggers; timing of your meals plays a role in
managing your migraine; trigger foods can be alcohol, chocolate, aged
cheese, cured meats, smoked fish, yeast extract and just about any
food with preservatives.
Practice
relaxation, try listening to some calming sounds on your phone or do
meditation and navy style breathing.
Turn
off electronics, the blue light from your TV, smartphones and tablets
upsets your body's natural sleep-wake clock and it causes your brain
to wake up. In addition to that normally the light will make your
migraine worse.
Create
a good sleep environment. Your bed should be for sleep and “adult
time” only don't use your room to watch TV or play video games. It
should be cool, dark and quiet. Weighted blankets have been shown to
help with sleep.
Be
cautious about sleep aids, short term use is okay especially if it's
melatonin but most of the OTC medicine can start keeping you up
instead of helping you fall asleep.
In
reality you should practice all of these things to achieve a good
night sleep but these were studies done to help figure out ways to
sleep better when you suffer from migraines.
