UPDATE DIY Bar Soap

I made the homemade bar soap, now that I have made it I want to give my opinions. To make the soap click here. The recipe will open in a new tab.

I made mine with the scent of lemon and basil. In the one of the recipes it says you can used dried citrus fruit. I dried the lemons and decided to use basil with it. In the recipe it says 1/2tsp dried herbs. Now here is the few problems I found.

1. In some of the areas around the lemons it didn't harden all the way.
2. When I went to use the soap, I had little flakes of basil on my skin (not that big of a deal)
3. The molds I bought are not very deep, so it is a thinner soap.

In addition to the real lemons and basil, I also used lemon essential oils. The recipe calls for 30 drops. It wasn't very strong smelling so I upped it to 60 drops of lemon. Only 1 problem I found with that; when I went to use it, it smelled great but didn't smell on my skin. So I know I am going to up the amount of essential oils next time.

Now with this recipe and mold I was able to make 6 bars out of 1lb of the goats milk. Which means I can make 12 bars with 2lbs and it averages out to be around .98 cents a bar. This doesn't include the price of my essential oils because I already had them and I already had the basil and lemons.

I think this is going to be a trial and error until you find the right combination of scents potency. I like a strong scent and I for sure want to smell that on me.

So for my next 6 bars I will only be using essential oils (I have posted a lot but I will say it again, do not use the Walmart brand). I am also going to buy a bigger mold, you can view the new mold and even order it by clicking here (Amazon) a new tab will open.

For the main recipe I posted, it cost $10 for the pink molds and $11 for the goats milk. So for 12 bars of soap (not including oils, herbs or lemons) it was only $22 dollars. With the new mold it costs $13.99, you might not be able to make all 12 bars with just 2lbs goat milk with how deep the molds are, however if you can only make 6 that is $1.83 a bar which isn't bad at all for something all natural. I shop at a local all natural store and for a bar of soap (the same size as the new mold I put in this post) I pay $7 for just 1 bar. Plus once you have the mold and whatever other items you want to put in your soap you only have to buy the goats milk when you start running low on soap.

I will tell you my favorite part of all of this (besides having my own homemade natural soap) once the lemons were dry it only took me 5 minutes to make the soap!

So again you can read the recipe by clicking here and you can buy the mold I strongly suggest getting by clicking here. Below is a picture of what my soap looked like while it was drying. Happy soap making everyone!
