10 Reasons Why You Should Use Natural Deodorant - DIY Recipe in Post

There is a lot of controversy behind store bought deodorant. I have a recipe I really like to use and it's simple and it does work. Mind you it takes your body time to adjust to non chemical deodorant.

Now the reasons they say why you shouldn't use store bought...

1. Deodorant is packed with toxic chemicals and preservatives. Take a look at the back of your deodorant bottle and see how many ingredients you can pronounce. Not only are they hard to pronounce but even harder to prove as safe.

2. Deodorant is filled with compounds that mess with your hormones. Most of them are loaded with chemicals that are capable of disrupting our endocrine system. A lot of this stuff can also be in artificial fragrances. Some of the ingredients can cause allergies, certain cancers and respiratory issues.

3. Deodorant contains substances that may increase your risk of cancer. Aluminum comounds are a common addition to deodorant and serve to block sweat ducts. These compounds have been found to mimic estrogen which can encourage the growth of cancer cells, particulary breast cancer.

4. They contain pesticides, yes the same thing you use on plants. Triclosan presents a variety of risks to your health; allergies, healthy weight, inflammatory issues and even throid conditions.

5. Deodorant can cause painful reactions and skin irritations. Now they all don't do that but I know myself I have picked up a brand and have gotten rashes.

6. Antiperspirants hardly even work. The FDA only requires antiperspirants to provide a 20% reduction in sweat.

7. Dripping with sweat can be a good thing. The human body contains millions of sweat glands, the store bought deodorant is hardly effective as most people think.

8. Deodorants become less effective over time. Scientists theorize that our bodies adapt to deodorant formulas and discover ways to clear ducts that were previously plugged with aluminum. So it's kinda like when your body gets use to an antibiotic.

9. You may smell fine without deodorant, I don't know how much of that is true, I am assuming it depends on you and your body. I know just sitting around the house I don't have to use mine (which I make) every day. Now when I am out and about or in the summer, I apply it a few times a day.

10. Lastly you won't have to worry about the annoying white streaks or stains on your clothes.

Now, are you willing to give it a try? If so here is what you need....

A glass spray bottle, not a big one, I have a 4oz bottle I got from eBay.

1/2oz high proof vodka, I use 100 proof (it lasts a long time)

3oz water

Then your essential oils, you can really use any scent you want but I prefer to use eucalyptus because its stronger, I use 16 drops. Then I use a citrus scent with it, normally lemon, lime or orange and I use 24 drops of that.

Give it a try, remember your body has to adjust to it, so give it about a week. If you try it let me know what you think!

Fall Simmering Potpourri

I love the smell of fall, I even like fall itself.  I just don't like what follows... winter!  However I love walking in my home and smelling  the fall scents that are so warm and inviting. Making this simmering potpourri is extremely easy! What you'll need: Tangerine or orange peels Cloves Cinnamon sticks or ground cinnamon Vanilla extract Pumpkin pie spice Water Small crockpot, saucepan or tea kettle You can choose how much you want to put in  of what, there really is no magic amount. I normally put  in more of my favorite scents. If using a tea kettle  or a sauce pan keep in mind you will have to keep  adding water to it. If you use a crockpot you  will not have to keep adding water and you can keep  it on even when you're asleep. Some other ideas that you can add are: Apple juice (instead of water) Cranberries Nutmeg Anise (one of my favorites) Dried fruit Coffee beans Have you ever made a simmering potpourri pot?  What do you normal...
