The Importance of Hydration

It is crucial to stay hydrated for many reasons! Regulate your body temperature, keeping your joints well lubricated, prevent infections, deliver nutrients to cells and keeping your organs functioning properly. It also improves sleep quality, cognitionan and mood.

It use to be said that you should drink 8 cups of water a day. Experts are now saying you should drink 11 cups a day for women and 16 cups a day for men. It doesn't have to be plain water. You can buy flavored water, the water packets. You can even use decaff tea (caffeinated beverages dehydrate you)

It is best to stay away from sugar sweetened beverages when trying to stay hydrated though the experts are saying it takes away from what you are getting from your water.

Even energy drinks and vitamin waters are loaded with sugars, those are best to drink after a workout or a few while you are sick because of the electrolytes.

When you are active or sick it is the most crucial time to keep an eye on your water intake. They even make special water bottles now that show you how many cups you have drank, or they have motivational words on each cup of the bottle you have drank.

Summer time when you are outside working is important too because you are sweating and losing water, so keep that water close!
